*John 18 vs 10*
*Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus*
*Luke 22 vs 51*
*And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him*
In the garden of Gethsemane soldiers led by Judas came t arrest Jesus. Peter was not happy to say the least with what was going on .
Peter knew Jesus as *truth* ( *Joh 14:6* Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, *the truth* … ) , so he decided to defend the truth, how ?
He took his sword and had the ear of Malchus cut and laying in the dirt or soil
You could almost celebrate Peter , a disciple who stood and defended his Master . But this time it was not right.
So Jesus the Master rebukes Peter’s reaction and goes on to heal back the ear.
How Jesus , why Jesus ?
Understand this :
• those who live by the sword shall die by the sword
• Peter you are defending *the truth* the wrong way, if you cut the ear you have cut or removed any chance of negotiation by removing that which enables hearing and to be understood
This is exactly what some of us do . We kill or cut any line of communication by how react. *We cut the ear* yet we still want to be heard
Jesus restored the ear – spirit of reconciliation, thereby leaving room for further talk to resolve issues
You must come to a point where the truth defends you and not you defending the truth
*We need our tongues to be healed* A tongue is like a sword so that we do not cut each other
